I’m down to just over 500 miles to go. I’m leaving Cascade Locks tomorrow morning, and not looking forward to the climb out of the Columbia River Valley (the lowest point of the PCT by the way at 79 feet) to get back into the mountains. The local heat wave is the icing on the cake. However, it also means that the classic pacific northwest wet weather is holding off for now. Cascade Locks has been kinda restful for me. It appears that a big bubble of hikers showed up yesterday and today, and many of us are heading out tomorrow. I guess I won’t be alone leaving town for the first time on this trip.
So what’s in store? The mountains are steeper again, the trail a little rougher, and the towns further off trail. Which also means you won’t see many updates until I reach my Washington midpoint break. But some spectacular scenery is also in store, so I’m excited for that.
I plan to make it to the Trout Lake access point in 4-5 days for my first resupply box pickup, then another 3 days to get to White Pass for the next package. Then there’s a longer 5 day stretch (and heavy food carry) to get me to Snoqualamie Pass. Four-ish days after that I plan to get off trail for a break in Leavenworth where I’ll plan and shop for the remainder of the journey. I’m hoping and praying the weather window will hold out for me.
Savior out.
