The early morning has me making the easy climb up to Silver Pass. No snow here, just nice easy trail. Just before summiting, I come across a USFS trail crew. One of the members contacts me and starts asking questions, but she loses my respect when she claims my PCT permit was cancelled. Since I’ve been out of internet connectivity, I ask when this happened. March. Well, no it didn’t. The conversation didn’t last long after that.
Despite the bad taste in my mouth from a misinformed government stooge, I quickly march on to make my miles. By this juncture, I’m starting to run into a lot of southbound John Muir Trail hikers. It seems that with things opening, so are the back country permits. While up high, the lack of tree shade warms me up, to the point of getting hot. Down lower, the temps cool in the shade, but then the mosquitoes return. Again, there ain’t no rest for the wicked. And with what i though was a shoe and/or insole problem has actually turned out to be a pair of holey socks. One pair has a gotten very thin right at the pad of my feet, causing abrasions and bruising. One more day to Mammoth and I can get a new pair…hopefully. Never has a town stop called me so hard. Just one more day.
Savior out.
