Day 16, Who’s the Fool?

4/1/20, Mile: 151.8

I’m taking my zero in Idyllwild, though it doesn’t feel like a zero. Unpack, shower, do laundry, eat, go to post office, sort food and gear, back to post office to send stuff off, buy food and then realize I’m tired. Very tired. Oh that’s right, 24-hours ago, I was still arriving at the Paradise Valley Cafe. And I’m leaving in the morning.

My body and mind could use another day of just sitting and napping. But there’s a weather system coming in Sunday night. I think I need to beat it, otherwise this section of trail won’t be passable for a week at least (gear and skills VERY dependant). This is the first time I’m feeling the pressure to “perform”, to hike bigger days, don’t slack off, make the miles. Quite a few of my trail friends are here at the same time, but I just don’t feel like being social (safe distance, of course).

So, I’m tired, apprehensive and not enjoying this much right now. No posts likely for a few days. See ya on the flipside.

These are the “Character” building days. You know, the ones that change who you are.

May the wind be at your back and the trail rise to your feet.
