3/26/20, mile 94.4
Well I didn’t wither away from dehydration. The rain overnight disapated in time for the tent to dry before I broke camp. Due to the water situation, no coffee, no oatmeal. Which means food and fuel I’m carrying is dead weight. Typical for this part of the trail, it was hot or cold, depending on the sun and the wind. Well, just keep walking.
About 7 miles into the day and 3 before stopping, I finally got to the water cache. Oh my did that look good. And I also caught up to Disco and David just as they were leaving. I took time to finally make some coffee, cook some food, and grab a little water (3 liter max, please). The day was wonderful here, sunny and light breezes. The Danger brothers were also here taking a break. They’re fellow Boy Scouts from Michigan.
Just before my site, I passed the couple from British Columbia; Spitfire and Whiskey Jack. They’re a fun couple to talk with and they are packed to the hilt. They’re walking home…
My camp for the night is near a great lookout of the valley below to the west again. I had a visit from two Hueys flying below me. Though in the bushes, the site wasn’t perfect, but I was afraid anything else would be worse. Since I wanted to save my water for drinking for the next 6 miles or so (to the next water at Barrel Springs on Montezuma Valley Road, no cooked dinner again. But there’s still plenty of oatmeal raisin cookies.
