One Year PCT Start Anniversary

It’s hard to contemplate the changes that I’ve encountered over the last 365 days. Throw in the challenges that the rest of society has had to deal with due to Covid, it’s been been one hell of a year for all of us. Over the last 5-1/2 months since I’ve finished, I’ve pretty much stayed at home (save for a couple of overnight motorcycle trips, my anniversary getaway and one nuclear family getaway to a cabin. But I haven’t been sitting on my laurels. While I was out gallivanting on the PCT last year, my wife decided to take the wallpaper off of our kitchen. Our house, built in 1959, still has the original cabinets. The floor was replaced at least once, the stove and oven at least once, and a couple of layers of wallpaper. Sooooo, when I got home, I had my work cut out for me. The sheetrock was f’ed, and refinishing the cabinets seemed fruitless. Time for a complete remodel.

Being that I was the designated demo man, plumber, electrician, framer, carpenter….blah, blah, blah….I have been busy working (and watching a lot of YouTube!). Down to the studs and the subfloor, as well as replacing the galvanized pipes to copper and upgrading the electrical. Then the oh-so-favorite sheetrock, taping and painting. Oh, and new cabinets and appliances. The only things we farmed out was the finish floor and countertop installation. Today, I just finished installing the last tile backsplash, and hope to finish the grout and trim in the next week.

Like I said, I’ve been busy. I need a motorcycle trip.
