Tehachapi Resupply and Zero

Saftey and I shared a room for the last two nights, enjoying each other’s company while also walking all over to get our stuff done. While this is a big town, it is very spread out and not very walkable. I chose this hotel because it minimized the walking needed (Walmart less than 1/2 mile away, restaurants closer). The post office is a 20 minute walk away, along with Big 5 Sporting Goods. While it’s not walkable, the people are very friendly. I got a lift from a trail angel when I left Walmart. Another trail angel stopped me on the street as I was walking. The post office staff were very friendly, and they even had a hiker box. The restaurants are some of the best we’ve experienced so far, most allowing customers to enjoy a beverage while you wait for your food to be prepped. I had my first beer in a glass last night since I started this trip.

Safety left this morning. I’m taking the $3 bus this afternoon. This next segment has some long water carries (17 miles right out of the gate), not to mention a lot of climbing. We are on way to the Sierras. The weather remains cool, though not as windy, and rain is forecast for Monday and Tuesday. What the hell?!

So I have like 6 days of hiking to reach Highway 178, where I’ll head to Lake Isabella for resupply, then get back on trail for the last 3-ish days to roll in to Kennedy Meadows. This a big milestone, and I’m chomping at the bit.

I don’t know what kind of cell service I’ll have for the next week, so I apologize in advance for lack of updates.

Savior out.

Wow – just read your logs. Impressive, best of all to you. Someday, I would love to buy you a few beers and hear all of the stories. Seems like so long ago we were working together. I am way past my health ability to ever do this trip. Wish I had years ago. Cheers and blessings.
