Day 4, 3/20/20, Mile: 38.8
That news didn’t sit well with me, I didn’t sleep well. Follow that up with waking up at 7 (in other words, late) and it wasn’t a good start to the day. The morning poo with a view helped to break the funk. The morning saunter was all uphill. i was feeling good both physically and with what I’m doing. And then I wasn’t.
First, I had to backtrak a half mile to get needed water. It was such a wonderful spot and the sun was out, I did some laundry, too (creek rinse), along with me. After that, the day went downhill (except of course for the trail, which went constantly uphill). The one saving grace was it was unseasonably cool and cloudy, so I wasn’t hot. My body was tired, I was walking slow, and my heart was sinking about this whole thing.
I’ve been spending too much time on the PCT 2020 Facebook page. That will end. And I seem to have a couple of people who disapprove of my choices. Yes, I read the comments, just ask my flat mates when I read Bryce’s out loud. Am I becoming too much of a softy? Anyway, I don’t have the time to answer them, I apologize. So back to the negativity. Big Bear is asking for nobody to visit, yet owers of vacation homes are more than welcome to visit. There are rumors of other trail towns frowning on visitors. I’m out here operating the same way I would at home. When I go shopping, I sanitize. I keep my distance from others, when I leave I sanitize. On trail, we keep our distance from each other.
So I was in an overall funk about the whole thing, taking it personally. Then it dawned on me, I haven’t eaten in a while. So, I finally ate candy, half a snickers. Well, well, theres some energy I needed. But the snow on the trail piled on to the negative energy. Then came the slush and mud. I foolishly passed a couple of dry campsites to get closer to Mt. Laguna, so I ended up pitching on snow. It was a cold night, below freezing in the morning.
Sorry, no pictures, not enough bandwidth where I’m at.
March on Soldier!
